About the Play
Set in rural Ireland in 1833, Translations is an exploration of love, language, identity, and cultural conflict. Irish-speaking villagers gather at the local hedge school where their longtime and longwinded schoolmaster instructs them in Latin and Ancient Greek. They find their lives uprooted by British soldiers on an assignment to map the country, draw new borders, and “standardize” local place names into the King’s English. Political, cultural, and personal tensions rise when a villager and soldier fall in love amidst it all.
About Small Batch Cellars
A winery in North Haven known for their small batches, they explore unique and special wines. They allow each vintage to bring its own flavor and are dedicated to sharing great wine year after year. Wine and beer will be available at each performance.
